Message to Crisha Hall. First of all, let me say that I did not reply to your rebuttal of my stance on affirmative action because I did not want to offend you any further... but since you still seem to be offended ...I will go the distance. You seem to assume beacuse an ethnic minority like myself benefited from affirmative action, that I do not work hard "work for what I get" like you do. LOL! Not only is that an arrogant opinion,it is a misinformed opinion. Your generalization of those of who benefit from affirmative action appalls me and it is the very reason that I make comments like "99.9 % percent of whites are senseless about issues involving race." For you see, I know that this generalization is wrong and that it is very unfair--I said it in frustration over unfair assumptions that were being made previously on this message board. But you...you seem to base your entire opinion of ethnic/racial minorities on such rediculous notions as "because whites feel guilt over the priveledges they recieve and are made to recognize this shame, they face racism too." Please! I know those lunchladies too and they treat everybody bad. However, unlike you, I do not attribute their rudeness to racism...I attribute it to frustration over an unfufilling job. Hmmm....I wonder what you would think of those ladies if they were white and they acted like that to black students? They probably wouldn't be racist would they...they would probably be misundertood? I do not doubt that there are many whites who are unfairly stereotyped. But don't equate your situation to mine...ITS NOT FAIR TO EITHER OF US. Furthermore, every damn thing offends you and the only time that you wanna talk about race is when whites suffer from stereotyping. For two weeks this class was going nowhere on the race issue, because we were more concerned with how whites are unfairly represented as "racist/unfair/priveledged" than with a real multicultural perspective that focuses upon how bad white people have it.Did you really expect that this class was going to be easy and that everything that you have been taught is right? No one wants you to apologize for being white....we want you to understand that there are many times when being white=privelege just like my being a heterosexual male=privelege. I THINK THAT YOUR INADEQUACY ABOUT DISCUSSING THIS STEMS FROM THE FACT THAT YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT RACE-BASED PRIVELEDGE IS STILL AROUND AND THAT MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY AND SOME CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION DIDN'T SWEEP IT NEATLY UNDER A SOME RUG. THAT'S THE PROBLEM....NOT THE CLASS. People may disagree with me, thats fine. The only time this class ever really discusses whats on their mind is when someone, pushes the envelope and challenges their assumptions. Before my e-mail this class was going in circles. Now we are finally showing our true colors and I think that is healthy in a class like ours.
