Well beings that this message was directed in response to me and it was said that if one want to blame racism "Look at yourselves", I think I need to state something loud and clear. There is no call for saying that I am included in the cause for racism. If you had clearly read my message to which you were responding you would have noted that I am a Native American (with some European descent). Now if you want to talk about oppression look into the history books about Native Americans. Where are they? True tribal Natives were given pieces of land that no one wanted that no one could use. They were enslaved, killed with viruses, killed in wars, and sent to "reservations". Now that is oppression. Never once in class or otherwise have I called this into discussion. I have never lived that life. Both of my great-grandmothers were full blood Choctaw, one of my great-grandfathers was a full blood Cherokee. Now as a MINORITY, I still stand that I don't want ANY handouts. I will work for what I recieve and accept it based on my hard work. Nothing more nothing less. I will not take anything based on the lives that my great-grandparents lived. I will cherish the history. I will forever be proud and saddened by what they had to endure but never will I let their hardships bring me material benefits. Actually I was awarded a "Minorities in Medicine" scholoarship when I wanted to study genetics. I denied it. I hope now that I have laid my history in your lap, you will retract the statement that I should look at myself as the cause for racism. Until you know someone~don't make assumptions-that is the cause of racism.
