A good female sports journalist is hard to find

By Melanie Hnetka mhnetka@julian.uwo.ca

I n newsrooms across Canada, female sports journalists are still as rare as the number of Grey Cups won by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. At the four television networks, more than 40 men and six women take their places in front of the camera each week as sportscasters. In the Globe and Mail's sports department, three of the 17 reporters are women.

Although Canadian networks and newspapers say hiring women for their sports departments is a priority, a good female journalist who knows sports is hard to find.http://www.uwo.ca/journ/reporter/March2999/sports.htm
