OK well i want to start out by saying that I am not a female and therefore I will never know what goes on in the life of a female sports journalist. But I want to talk about the article that Josee' Rose wrote in a commentary in the most recent edition of The Signal.
I have to acknowledge that some feelings of superiority by men towards women in sports still exist, and I cannot speak for any coaches or other men she might have spoken to, but I can speak from my own feelings as a male sports journalist.
Again let me say this so I am crystal clear, I am not a female and I do nto know what actually happened with these people, but i cannot believe that ANY coach would come out and say to a female reporter, "Do you know what football is?" That is the exact opposite thing of "PC" that someone could say, and with that being such a big issue in the recent past, I have a hard time believeing that overt sexism like that would take place at this non-pro level. I can say that because my own feelings are that women are extremely equal to men when it comes to sports, and I think Josee herself is very good. I also do not get the feeling from working in a newsroom that anyone around me feels that way, either. They might htink it but no one shares it. Something to think about.
