Here's another point to consider: What is "racism" to you? The word -- along with other -isms and -phobias -- is thrown around often, but what does it mean?
When I was in high school, I wrote an article about punker-than-thou types who dye their hair pink and think that makes them unique. (I was young. Forgive me.) A girl accused me of being "racist" toward punks and teenagers. Uh, okay.
The word no longer has a definite meaning. It's losing its impact because it's so widely used, often in inappropriate situations.
So, when you use "racism," what concept are you describing? The notion that a certain race is superior to others? Or something more encompassing?
When you say that affirmative action promotes racism, from what end does it do so? Is management working under the assumption that non-whites are inferior, therefore they need all of the help they can get? Are the non-whites working under the assumption that they're superior, therefore deserve all of the help? Are whites embracing racism as a response to affirmative action?
