As I stated in my introduction (I think), I am fearful of not being able to relate to some issues/people as well as others. I was sitting here thinking of something intelligent to write about Newkirk, but no brain storms...I simply think that it will be very interesting to read. I hope that it will allow me to connect better in order to understand the issue more thoroughly. However, I am jumping back to Chapter 3 for honesty's sake. I read the articles about blacks and asian-americans and other minority ethnic groups, but wasn't surprised but much until I read about the lack of reports about women and the content included in those that do get published. I guess that too is the relating problem I've been blabbering about. But, when I went to the link in Jen's post I was struck by how strongly the writer felt about affirmative action and how he expresses my views to an extent as well. I think that affirmative action allows racism to continue. I don't think that it is the only cause for continuation, but I think it plays a big part. It points out that yes there are disparities in the work place which is good to acknowledge. But I feel that when minorities are hired with an affirmative action reasoning, it causes the majority (if that's how they should be referenced) to look down on them. As a minority genetically, not by appearance, I would want to know that if I got a job, it was solely because of my abilities not because I am Native American. I would want others to know that as well. Sorry for going on and on and on, but I have 3 hours until my next class!!!!
