The college was awakened this Friday, Dec. 1, as a group of protestors

voiced their opinions regarding the Nike-sponsored summer golf tournament.

The group announced that they were opposed to the idea of the college

allowing Nike to sponsor the event, as Nike has been strongly linked to the

usage of sweat shops. The group’s intent was to alert students that supporting

Nike had many ethical downfalls an overall negative impact. The protestors said

that we should act according to the mission statement and in the interest of our

global community to set forth a good example. These ideas brought about a concern

that a forum for future input is necessary.

All these ideas and concerns of the students are taken seriously and

valued highly by the college. It is in the college, students, and community’s

better interest to get more information and alternative ideas as to what

will benefit not only our school, but community both locally and globally.

To respond to these new concerns, the college will have a forum for

all to attend so that all sides are represented and heard. Our goal is to arrive

at best conclusion which addresses our greatest concerns.
